The Tavira Garden holiday apartment
rental complex is located in Tavira on the N125 main road which connects Faro to
Villa Real do Santo Antonio on the Spanish border via Tavira. It is ~10 to 15
mins walk to the Roman bridge which is generally regarded as the centre of the
old town and ~5 mins from the motorway exit. A taxi from Faro airport takes ~30
minutes and costs €40 for four people, €55 for five or six, if you ask us to
arrange a dedicated taxi to meet you.
Tavira Garden, developed over ~10
years from the mid 90’s, was finished only a few years ago. Conceived by a
group of Swedish investors, the complex stands stark white and commanding on a
low hill in Tavira. The architecture is an expressionist rendition of the
medieval Moorish style. The lush, mature
gardens boast an impressive array of palm, carob, olive, magnolia, bougainvillea
trees, set off by lovingly tended shrubs and flowers. There are two pools, each
with adjoining kids pool; the main pool is 25m and boasts a Caribbean-style
poolside bar during the summer months. This is a family-friendly holiday apartment rental complex
with two kids play areas and communal barbecue area./ Largely pedestrianised,
it is well lit at night and can be regarded as a safe, secure base from which to enjoy the sun, sand and sights of
the Algarve – or the magnificent golf courses, hills and countryside!
Those seeking disco bars and lager louts will be sorely disappointed – not only
in the complex but also in the town itself! The on-site bar/restaurant

organises regular live entertainment during the season.
There are approx 160 holiday rental
apartments (mostly 1- or 2-bed, many with air-conditioning) in total. The
clientele is a polyglot mix of Scandinavians, English, Irish, French, Dutch and
Germans – and, of course, Portuguese and Spaniards. English is very much the
business language of Tavira Garden and of the Algarve as a whole but Spanish,
French, Dutch and German are strong runners also.
For the more energetic, there is a
comprehensively equipped gym (with a personal trainer for the masochists!) and a
tennis court; a boules court offers a more genteel alternative. A readily
available and inexpensive (~€4 within the urban area) taxi service permits easy
access to the many fine restaurants of the town. Car rental is available on the
complex (airport/apartment pick-up and/or drop-off) but many visitors opt to
walk or taxi most of the time and perhaps to rent a car for a few days to visit
